Best Time to Travel
Best Time to Travel to Tanzania
Tanzania is a year-round destination, but the ideal timing depends on your interests—whether it’s wildlife, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, or enjoying Zanzibar’s beaches.
1. Wildlife Safaris & Migration Viewing
Dry Season: June to October
Wildlife concentrates around water sources, making it easier to spot animals.
Perfect for the Great Migration in the Serengeti and Mara River crossings.
Short Rains: November
Fewer tourists, lush landscapes, and some wildebeest herds still present.
Long Rains: March to May
Many roads may be muddy, some lodges close, and wildlife can be harder to see.
Tip: The dry season is generally considered the best time for game drives in Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire, and Lake Manyara.
2. Mount Kilimanjaro & Mount Meru Treks
Ideal Months: January to March, June to October
Stable weather, dry trails, and clear summit views.
June to October is cooler and more popular, so book early.
Avoid: March to May (long rains)
Slippery trails, muddy conditions, and less predictable weather.
Tip: Sunrise summit climbs are more spectacular during dry, cloudless months.
3. Zanzibar & Coastal Beach Holidays
Best Months: June to October, December to February
Warm, dry, and sunny—perfect for swimming, diving, snorkeling, and relaxing on pristine beaches.
Short Rains: November
Brief showers, fewer crowds, and vibrant landscapes.
Long Rains: March to May
Many resorts offer lower rates; some water sports may be limited.
Tip: December and January are excellent for combining safaris and beach holidays with ideal weather.
