3 Days Mount Meru Climb
Overview
Mount Meru (4,566 m / 14,980 ft) is Tanzania’s second-highest mountain and a spectacular trekking destination inside Arusha National Park. This shorter 3-day climb is designed for experienced hikers or those with limited time who still want to enjoy a challenging trek, stunning scenery, and a rewarding summit. The route takes you through diverse habitats—lush forests, moorland, and alpine desert—while offering breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Great Rift Valley, and Arusha National Park’s wildlife.
Day 1: Arusha – Momella Gate – Miriakamba Hut
Drive from Arusha to Momella Gate for registration. Begin the trek through beautiful forests, spotting giraffes, buffalos, zebras, and monkeys along the way. Arrive at Miriakamba Hut for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut – Saddle Hut – Little Meru
Trek uphill through forest and heather zones to reach Saddle Hut, where you will rest and prepare for the summit. In the afternoon, take an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820 m) for great views and a better chance of summit success. Overnight at Saddle Hut.

Distance: ~8 km / 5 miles (to Saddle Hut) + 3 km / 1.8 miles (Little Meru hike)

Day 3: Saddle Hut – Summit (Socialist Peak) – Momella Gate – Arusha
Start the summit climb around midnight, ascending steep ridges to reach Socialist Peak (4,566 m) at sunrise. From the top, enjoy dramatic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Meru Crater, and the surrounding landscapes. Descend to Saddle Hut for a short break, then continue down to Momella Gate, where your driver will transfer you back to Arusha.
